More Work of The Holy Spirit
The final work of The Holy Spirit we will consider is the matter of convicting//convincing the world about the reality of judgment (John 16:8). This convicting//convincing is because the "ruler" of this world is judged."
This is a curious statement about the work of The Holy Spirit. He will convict//convince the world of judgment about their ruler. This is the unique work of the Spirit about their ruler that they would never know about or guess is the case.. Partially because the ruler of the world seems to be in control.
This "ruler of the world" is the evil one or the devil and the world is the unredeemed system that opposes God and His values. This world system and its ruler are in the position of judged. This is not some future judgment but present judgment
The work of The Spirit is to convict//convince all who are in opposition to God's rule that their ruler is now judged and to leave this ruler and his system. This means that the judgment is now.
Do we think that it is our job to convict//convince people of the judgment that is now on sin and the system of the world that opposes God? Do we see the error of thinking it is our role instead of The Holy Spirit?
REFLECT: How can you reframe your understanding of whose job it is to convict//convince people of their need of Jesus?
