More work of The Holy Spirit--enable going to The Father
The last blog introduced the truth about The Holy Spirit's work or ministry to the world (John 16:8-11). The work is convicting///convincing the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. I dealt with the convicting about sin and so we move to the next work.
Jesus says that The Holy Spirit will also convict//convince the world about righteousness. The word "righteous//righteousness" is a term that is used to indicate that which is right. So, the Holy Spirit will connect//convince the world about right--righteousness. The world has rejected Jesus and did not believe in him to be right and true about his message or ministry so at a very basic level the world is wrong and not right or righteous.
However Jesus seems to be more specific about righteousness. He declares that the righteousness that The Hoy Spirit will execute to the world is the righteousness because Jesus is going to the Father. What is that? It is that Jesus' life and ministry were right and because of that he is going to the Father. Only one who is righteous could go to The Father and by going to The father one is known to be righteous.
Just think of this ultimate attestation to Jesus' being right and righteous.....He is accepted into the presence of The Father. Isn't this what anyone who lives a life of righteousness truly desires; to be accepted into the presence of The Father.
REFLECT: As you live your life this week, give great attention to the ultimate goal of any actions that could be considered right or righteous: able to go to The Father.
