John 14 and The Holy Spirit

As we have seen, John 14 is a great source of the sayings of Jesus about the Holy Spirit. In fact, on the last night of Jesus' earthly ministry we find the most amount of teaching by Jesus about The Holy Spirit.

In John 14:25-26 Jesus draws a contrast between himself and The Holy Spirit. Jesus indicates that he has spoken things while he is with his followers. But The Holy Spirit's actions will come after Jesus leaves. This feature of The Hot Spirit's activity is one of the great truths; The Holy Spirit will be the new Helper and presence for those after Jesus returns to heaven.

What will the Holy Spirit do in Jesus' "absence?" First, Jesus says that The Holy Spirit will teach you all things (vs. 26). He who Jesus called "The Helper" will also be the teacher. The Holy Spirit takes what Jesus has taught while with them and helps to make the truth personal in them after Jesus leaves.

The Holy Spirit will also "bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you." This ministry of The Holy Spirit enables us to remember all that Jesus taught. What a ministry to us and what a comfort to know that The Holy Spirit is going to remind us.

But this reminding makes me wonder if The Holy Spirit's ministry to us is hindered if we do not take time to learn Jesus' words SO the Holy Spirit can remind us. In other words, there must be an initial learning of Jesus' words BEFORE there can be any reminding.

REFLECT: How much can The Holy Spirit remind you of Jesus' words because you have given time to lean them in the 1st place? How have you experienced The Holy Spirit's teaching you?
