A Person with whom to relate
Over the last few blogs I have attempted to help us understand the teaching of being filled with and led by The Holy Spirit. I have attempted to give some practical ways as to how to understand being led by The Spirit and filled by The Spirit.
The challenge with this work is so as to be careful that we are not simply referring to a feeling or an experience. No the work here is to help us know and acknowledge as to how to relate to a person: The Holy Spirit.
This is so important to remember because there is a tendency to associate the Holy Spirit with a series of feelings. This is not to say that feelings are not in some way associated with an experience with The Holy Spirit, but it is however to say that the feeling is not what we are seeking.
So what is it that I am suggesting? Well, I am seeking to help clarify that The Holy Spirit is in fact a person; the 3rd person of The Trinity. The Holy Spirit is not a formula or a feeling; The Spirit is a person. The language of the New Testament (the grammar and the characteristics revealed of The Spirit) reveal that The Holy Spirit is a person.
So as we are on the Path To Pentecost let us keep in mind that the Holy Spirit is a person. This should cause some sense of relating to another person in the Trinity and not simply a feeling. We might even begin to consider how respecting and relating to The Holy Spirit as a person would create more personal actions on our part as we are filled and led.
REFLECT: How would being filled with The Spirit and being led by The Spirit be informed by relating to the Sprit as a person? Is your dominant thought of The Holy Spirit as a person?
