There are 3 great "movements" in the drama of God's redemption through Jesus Christ in the world and each have their own significance and importance. The 1st movement of Christmas surely has the importance of God being "with us" (Immanuel). The 2nd movement of Easter has the importance of Jesus taking our place in the removal of sin as God "for us." And the 3rd movement of Pentecost and the bestowing of The Holy Spirit as God "in us."
In celebrating Christmas there is the tradition of taking time to prepare one's heart through the practice of Advent. In celebrating Easter there is the tradition of taking time to prepare one's heart through the practice of Lent. But what is the tradition of the time after Easter as Christians prepare to celebrate Pentecost?
In the liturgical tradition there is surely the acknowledgment of the time between Easter and Pentecost: Paschal Time. These are days of prolonging the joy of Easter Sunday and looking forward to Pentecost.
APPLY: How can we take this space to prepare our hearts for Pentecost. How about a Bible reading plan that incorporates with your regular readings Ezekiel 11:14ff, 36:22-27; Joel 2; the Gospel accounts of Jesus after resurrection; John 14:15ff, John 15:25-16:15 and Acts 1.
