Thoughts about life AFTER Pentecost
We celebrated Pentecost and its meaning June 8, 2025. To refresh about what happened on that day see "Path To Pentecost" blog for June 7.
The day of Pentecost having occurred now sets in motion the plan of God that He had promised many centuries before (Ezekiel 36:26ff; Joel 2). Now there is a people of God from every tribe and tongue (Revelation 5:9).
This creation of God's people will "rock" the world in several ways. First, the configuration of "the people of God" is from every tribe and tongue as stated before in earlier paragraph. Second, this configuration of people from diverse places and languages become a community of people.
The interesting thing about this new community of diverse people is that they find unity because of their faith in Jesus and their experience with the infilling of The Holy Spirit. Moreover, they express this unity as they begin to devote themselves (Acts 2:42) in a community life. Note that these people from diverse locations and languages devote themselves to the apostles teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread and prayer.
What we have here is a community that is devoted to learning (Apostles teachign) and living (fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer). Often we might "find ourselves" focused on learning but not being engaged in community where we are living out our faith. Or, we might "find ourselves" focused on just living in community. It seems that this group of people were being devoted to both.
REFLECT: What "place" do these devoted practices occupy in your life or the life of your church? If not, why not? Which feature of learning and living do you tend to focus your effort?
