During Holy Week I was able to have time to reflect and experience much. The services for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter were all so meaningful. These days are packed with meaning for us all.
The one day of the week that may not be as obvious to many of us is "Silent Saturday or "Holy Saturday" This is the day in Holy Week that we remember that Jesus has died for the sins but all seems silent.
What made me start thinking is what must the follower's of Jesus be thinking and experiencing since Saturday is Sabbath. They could do nothing about the situation.....as observant Jews they rested and waited.
What they did not seem to know is that Jesus is "working" to save humanity on Saturday. The Apostles Creed says Jesus descended into Hades, and early believes understood this as "Harrowing Hell." Different interpretations of this may be needed but I take it to be Jesus' victory declared in Revelation 1:18: "I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, AND I have the keys to death and Hades." Jesus enacts His victory over sin, the devil and hell!!!
Jesus is Lord over all, as He applies His work to all the universe.....and all this while his followers are resting. What a Saviour!!
REFLECT: I would like for us to think about this for a moment. Does your view and experience of salvation begin with resting in the work of Jesus? Just as the early disciples were resting on Saturday, Jesus was defeating sin, the devil and hell and bringing salvation.
