Supernatural Direction

October 28, 2025

An Angel , The Holy Spirit, and a new believer in Jesus

There are some incredible accounts in the book of Acts as it relates to supernatural activity. None more incredible than the amount in Acts 8 and Philip.

Philip, in Acts 8, has been in Samaria and been part of an expanding witness to the resurrection of Jesus. Philip's ministry was accompanied by "signs that he diid" that involved healing of paralyzed people. What an incredible ministry for one who was introduced a few chapters earlier in helping to serve food to the widows of the expanding fellowship

However, Philip's ministry in Samaria is followed by what can only be understood as a supernatural visitation by and "an angel of the Lord." This angel gives Philip directions to leave where he is and go to a road that leads south to Gaza.....a town that has been in our news for the last couple of years.

Philip responds to these very general instructions, albeit from an angel , and leaves for Gaza. With these general instructions Philip observes a chariot on the road....not something unusual. But here is where it gets even more interesting and unusual.

The Scriptures reveal that now "The Spirit" (Holy Spirit) gives Philip very specific instruction to "go over and join the chariot (8:29)." This Philip does, and the story continues to where the occupant of the chariot, an official from Ethiopia, is brought to faith in Jesus.

One person on a road becomes a believer in Jesus because of supernatural direction. Wow.

REFLECT: What does this "tell" us about the value of 1 person when we see the supernatural directions given? Have you even sensed that you were receiving supernatural direction or wisdom in a ministry context?
